Extraordinary Professor, Department of Economics

Tom van Veen is a Professor of Economics of International Education at Maastricht University School of Business and Economics. In addition he is a part-time Professor of Economics at Nijenrode Business Universiteit.

Van Veens’ research focuses on the economic impact of the internationalization of education. He analyses education as a trade-able good, leading to four major research topics:

1. The macro-economics of international education
2. International education and the student
3. The international education industry and the competitive position of the international university
4. International education: what gains do international education offer the university
