Smeets, Paul

Assistant Professor, Department of Finance

The research focus of Paul Smeets is on behavioral economics and social finance, with a particular interest in philanthropy, socially responsible investments and the effect of hormones on financial decision making. In his recent projects he has been collaborating with several large banks, pension funds and mutual fund providers. With these financial institutions he conducts field experiments among their clients and professional investors. His recent paper joint with ABN AMRO “Giving Behavior of Millionaires” is published in the prestigious journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).

Paul visited the University of California San Diego in fall 2012, 2013 and 2014 and the University of Toulouse in December 2013.

At Maastricht University, he coordinates a Bachelor course on Corporate Finance and a Master course on Sustainable Finance.
