Muysken, Joan

Honorary Professor, Department of Economics

Joan Muysken is Honorary Professor of Macro-Economics at Maastricht University School of Business and Economics, where he teaches macro-economics and labour economics. His research covers a broad, international range of topics, always from the point of view of employment and the labour market.

Muysken mainly conducts research in two areas. Firstly, the macroeconomic aspects of economic growth and what causes the ‘ups’ and ‘downs’ in an economy. He thereby analyses the scope for government policy from a macro-economic perspective. Secondly, he studies the monetary policy of the European Central Bank with regard to issues such as inflation, interest rates and exchange rates, focusing on questions like ‘Is the Euro a good idea?’ or ‘Should the European Central Bank actually increase interest rates against the advice of the OECD?’
